Wongamat is located to the north of Pattaya, but sometimes it is not marked as a separate area on maps. This area is a prestigious, friendly district that is popular with both foreigners and Thais alike with some elite condominiums built there.

For whom:

  • This is an ideal area for those that want a prestigious address with a high quality lifestyle.
  • This is also an area for a safe investment.
  • The real estate in this area is not getting any cheaper and also since 2011 the construction odf any high rise buildings has been prohibited so making existing high rise units desirable.

Beach: One of the main features here is that access to the beach can only be gained through the condominium grounds. This is quite unusual as it is difficult to restrict beach access here in Thailand as it is public land. However, this is not an issue for property owners here. The beach itself is located away from the main road so creating a unique ambience.

Attractions & Leisure: There are very few attractions in this area but plenty in the neighbouring areas of North Pattaya and Naklua. In these areas are several temples with the most famous being the Temple of Truth which is built completely of wood. This is a private project dedicated to the unification of different religions. There is an entrance fee but the experience is well worth the money. In Banglamung you will find a traditional Thai temple with many statues as well as Chinese temple as this area is popular with Chinese. At the end of Naklua Road by the beach is a small playground which is very popular at weekends. Another attraction is the remains of the old fishing village with old wooden huts. Out on the Sukhumvit Road you will find Mini Siam.

Supermarkets/Markets: This area is home to many mini-marts, small shops selling fruit , meals and pharmacies. There is also a large Tesco Lotus. Closer to Pattaya there is a good selection of places to shop but there are only a few markets in this area. At the end of Naklua there is the famous fish market which is also popular with tourists. Fruit and vegetables are also available plus tents where you can cook your purchases. Apart from seafood there area great selection of meats, fruits, vegetables, and a range of ready cooked foods. There are also stalls with clothes and household items. There is also a smaller market in Soi Potisan. For those that wish to shop in a little more comfort there is Tesco Lotus, Makro and Best Supermarket all offering European products and located close to the Dolphin roundabout. Further out there clothing and homeware can be purchased at the Outlet Mall near to the Cholchan hotel.

Restaurants: There is not a great choice of water front restaurants in this area, however there is the much pulicised Silver Lining at the Zire condominium. There is also a good beach cafe "Surf and Terf" at the end of Soi 16. Other restaurants are located in hotels such as the Pullman. Further inland there is dozens of cafes and restaurants to choose from. These are dominated by German and Russian cuisine as many people from these countries holiday or settle in this area, but other restaurants such as Japanese and Chinese are easy to find. At the beginning of Naklua is La Baguette which for several years now has held the title of the best confrectionery in Pattaya. Close by is a restaurant called La Ferme which is owned by the same people. At the end of the street you will find one of the most famous restaurants in Pattaya called Mun Aroy which is well renowned for Thai cuisine and seafood dishes. Also in this area are many smaller places with homemade cakes.

Sport: In this area a lot of the condominiums and hotels have their own gyms. However there are also separate professional fitness centres in the area such as Tony’s Gym which is open 24 hours a day.

Public Transport: You will find the Songteos 10 Baht buses on the main Naklua Road which can involve a bit of a walk. To avoid this you can use the motorbike taxis or air conditioned cars which will be found at the Centara Grand Hotel.

Properties in Wongamat: The Wongamat area is an elite neighbourhood and this is reflected in the quality and price of the property there. The area is already built up with very little room for further development so demand for current property and prices will remain high.

  • Advantages – High quality accommodation, spacious apartments, a good environment with pleasant beaches close by.
  • Disadvantages – Consistently high property prices.
